Jakarta Ready to Build PLTSa to Handle Waste Problems

Jakarta Provincial Government is ready to build four to five Waste-to-Energy Power Plants (PLTSa) to solve waste problem in the city.

Jakarta is ready

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung said the construction plan is still waiting the Presidential Regulation (Perpres).

Environmental Agency Ensures Integrated and Sustainable Jakarta Waste Management

"We are waiting for the presidential regulation from the central government. Jakarta is ready for constructing four or five PLTSa," he said, Monday (6/16).

Regarding the sales mechanism for the electricity produced, Pramono explained that the electricity will later be distributed through PT PLN (Persero).

Meanwhile, regarding the problem of waste processing costs or tipping fees, Pramono emphasized that this is no longer an obstacle. He also said that PLTSa technology is now more easily accessible. Therefore, he is optimistic that the construction of PLTSa can run well in Jakarta.

With a daily waste volume reaching 7,700 tons and waste stock in Bantargebang estimated at 55 million tons, Jakarta is ready to realize the construction of this PLTSa.

Previously, Pramono added, part of the income from the sale of PLTSa electricity will be allocated for the construction of the Giant Sea Wall. The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently responsible for building the Giant Sea Wall or giant embankment on the north coast along 19 kilometers, or longer from the original 12 kilometers.

Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting to allocate at least Rp 5 trillion annually with the current City Budget of Rp 91 trillion for this tidal mitigation project.

"This is a challenge for us and we will work hard to be able to realize the assignment from the President," Pramono stated.
